Rainbow Lorikeet
Behaviour: highly social
Breeding notes: As prolific and versatile breeders, rainbow lorikeets frequently raise many families annually. Juveniles habe brownish-black beaks, which eventually turn bright orange-red, and duller plumage are characteristics that identify young birds. Between the ages of 12 and 24 months, they usually reach sexual maturity and begin to reproduce clutches of usually two eggs, but sometimes one or three.
The incubation period is 22–26 days. While the male feeds her, the female takes care of all incubation. The chicks spend seven to nine weeks in the nest. While the young learn to forage, parents continue to feed them for two to three weeks after they leave the nest.
