Slaty-headed Parakeet
Behaviour: The Slaty-headed Parakeet is renowned for being intelligent, gregarious, and quiet for a parakeet. Despite being less common as pets than other Asiatic species, they are generally regarded as amiable and can make excellent, trainable companions. Males’ shoulders feature a crimson patch.
Breeding notes: Early-season, monogamous breeders, slaty-headed parrots usually lay one clutch of three to five eggs annually between March and May. They need roomy aviaries, and during courtship, the male feeds the hen. Chicks fledge after 6–7 weeks of incubation, which lasts roughly 21–24 days. They are vulnerable to environmental stress and can be difficult to breed. Infertile eggs are frequently linked to inadequate nesting materials; it is advised to use rotten wood in the nest box.
