Red Collar Lorikeet

Behaviour: energetic, noisy, and intelligent birds

Breeding notes:   With a peak season in Australia from August to December, red-collared lorikeets are comparatively easy to reproduce. They lay one to three white eggs in tree hollows. They produce offspring that fledge in 8–9 weeks after a 22–25 day incubation period, are territorial, and need enough of space in aviaries. Male displays include loud screeching, bobbing of the head, and whirring of the wings. Pairs should be kept apart since they are territorial. To lessen initial aggressiveness, pairs should be introduced gradually, occasionally with the help of a cage divider.
